3 Fail-Proof Maternity Outfits to Feel Cute + Comfy During the First Trimester

3 Fail-Proof Maternity Outfits to Feel Cute + Comfy During the First Trimester

When I was pregnant with my first baby, I expected to look pregnant by 12 weeks but barely even had a baby bump yet! I didn’t really start to “show” until I was 18 weeks along and was well into the second trimester before I needed maternity jeans. However, the second time around was a little different! I felt like I was “showing” the minute I got a positive pregnancy test… well, that might be a slight exaggeration ;) but whether it was just some bloating or a little tiny baby bump, my body sure responded differently with pregnancy #2!

So whether you’re trying to hide the tiny, little baby bump before announcing the BIG NEWS after the first trimester, or you’re totally comfortable showing off that growing baby belly right away, I’m sharing 3 fail-proof maternity outfit ideas to keep you feeling cute AND comfy during the first trimester of pregnancy (from the day you find out you’re expecting to somewhere around 12-14 weeks along!)

3 Fail-Proof Maternity Outfits to Feel Cute + Comfy During the First Trimester

OUFFIT #1: Oversized Button-Down + Leggings

Whether it’s a classic chambray or a patterned flannel, this outfit will help conceal any growing baby bump (or bloating) during the first trimester before you announce the happy news! Pair your oversized top with your fav stretchy leggings for the ultimate cute + comfy first trimester maternity outfit.

STYLE BONUS: this oversized button-down will also come in handy during the third trimester for wearing unbuttoned + paired with fitted maternity tees AND for breastfeeding postpartum because the buttons make it extra nursing friendly, too!

OUTFIT #2: Front Tucked Tee + Jeans

Another great outfit option for the first trimester is a front-tucked tee + jeans! Not only will the front tuck flatter your figure + conceal any growing baby bump before you’re ready to announce the pregnancy news, but it’ll also help you transition through that awkward looks-like-I-just-ate-too-much-for-dinner baby bump stage that can happen right at the end of the first trimester. Pair a front tucked tee with your comfiest (& stretchiest) jeans for a fail-proof outfit formula you can come back to again & again!

STYLE TIP: make sure to experiment with both low rise jeans + hi-rise jeans to find the most comfortable fit for your growing baby bump. I preferred hi-rise jeans with my first pregnancy because I wasn’t showing right away, but definitely preferred low rise jeans with pregnancy #2 because that baby bump appeared much, much sooner and low rise jeans were way comfier!

OUTFIT #3: Fitted Maternity Tee + Jacket or Flannel

If you’ve shared the big news early (before 12 weeks) OR you just don’t mind showing off that beautiful, growing bump right away, then this outfit provides the perfect transition into second trimester maternity style. Pairing a fitted maternity tee + jacket is the perfect outfit combo for feeling cute +comfy without feeling totally on display as you get used to styling your new baby bump. Once you feel totally confident showing off that growing baby bump, tying a flannel around your waist is one of the most flattering way to accentuate that growing belly + add a touch of athleisure vibe to your maternity outfits, too!
