3 Steps to Becoming a Virtual Assistant & Making Income as a Stay at Home Mom

3 Steps to Becoming a Virtual Assistant & Making Income as a Stay at Home Mom

This week's blog post topic is a little bit different than my usual maternity & postpartum style tips, I know…

2020 has been quite the year & if I’ve learned anything from all the craziness, it’s that I want to be showing up & making a REAL difference in my online business.

I’ve always strived to bring a little bit of joy & a whole lot of love to your day through fun style tips, relatable mom life moments, and even a little healthy living inspiration… but maybe there’s something more I can help you do, too?

There’s so much that goes on behind-the-scenes of running my blog and online business, & today I want to give you a sneak peek behind-the-scenes of just one part of my online business - being a virtual assistant!

Being a virtual assistant has allowed me to turn my passions & skills into a profitable job working as a part-time Digital Media Virtual Assistant (while staying at home with my beautiful little babies & still using my brain to help pay the bills) in less than 30 days.

Whether you’re looking to stay at home with your first baby & generate enough income to help pay the bills...

or you just want to earn extra some cash to pay off your student loan debt faster...

or fully fund that dream family vacation to Disney World…

This week's blog post will give you a sneak peek into how this has been possible for me & how it could be possible for you, too!

3 Steps to Becoming a Virtual Assistant & Making Income as a Stay at Home Mom

Step #1 DEFINE Your Why + Set Your Goals

Whatever your motivation for wanting to work from home and crate your own schedule while balancing work and life priorities, I fully support you! I’ve been there & that how I know getting very clear on your why for starting a virtual assistant business is super important. It’s not all rainbow and butterflies and when you come up against something difficult, you’ll need that clear why to keep you motivated and pushing through the uncomfortableness that comes with the exponential personal growth you’re about to experience as you embark on this new adventure! But I promise, it’s worth every second of it! Next, you’ll want to set your goals for how many hours you want to work as well as how much income you’ll want to generate.

Step #2 DECIDE on Your Service Offerings + Set Your Pricing Structure

Then you’ll start to brainstorm all of the different types of services you could offer as a virtual assistant. Anything from graphic design to copyediting to social media manager to web design… think about your natural skills (the things people come to you for advice or help with all the time - like proofreading friends + family’s papers) or things you enjoy doing & get compliments on regularly (like your Instagram photo editing skills or writing style). If you need help with ideas, send me an email & I would be happy to help you brainstorm!

Then you’ll need to decide whether you want to price hourly or on a per package basis. Most new virtual assistants will charge a rate of $25/hour, but I don’t suggest this pricing structure for many reasons. Most importantly, as you become more proficient in your work (which provide greater value to your client) it will likely take you less time to do the work - and you would essentially be getting paid less to do better work! Doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me. Plus, your clients only care about the quality of your work (which is what they’re paying you for), not how long it took you to do it!

Step #3 DISCOVER Your Ideal Client + Start Making an Income

Finally, you’re ready to put it out into the world that you now offer virtual assistant services + start booking discovery calls. A “discovery call” is just a fancy word for getting on the phone and asking a potential clients how you can help them & seeing if you are a good fit to work together. There’s an art and a science to it - but one you get comfortable, this process is actually quite fun! Especially when you land your first paying client + get that first deposit into your business bank account!

*BONUS * Step #4 DELIVER Outstanding Service

Going above & beyond for your clients doesn’t mean working yourself to the bone or compromising your work / life boundaries. On the contrary, delivering outstanding service means setting clear expectations, coming from a place of service, and then giving it your 110% on every project! This is the best way to build a sustainable virtual assistant business that keeps you inspired and feeling creatively energized while maintaining a stellar work / life balance & earning yourself even more work from your best clients to keep your schedule & your bank account full!

If you’re looking for a way to earn a little extra income while staying at home to raise your babies, I hope thees tips inspire you to stop thinking about it & start GOING FOR IT! What’s the worst that could happen?! I asked myself this exact same question when I first started my VA business & the answer: it doesn’t work out & you simply move on to the next thing… but you’ll never know until you try!

xo, Adrianna

PS I’m hosting a small group coaching program for 3-5 women during the month of October - to help you start to make $1000+/month from your own virtual assistant business, too! If you’re interested, send me a quick email here + I’ll send you more details… but hurry, there’s limited spots!
