I first started switching to non toxic beauty products after reading The Honest Life by Jessica Alba. If you’ve been reading my blog for a while you know I’m a big fan of her company the Honest Company, especially their cute non toxic diapers and wipes I’ve raved about before in this post. Reading that book really opened my eyes to the amount of toxic chemicals that are found in our everyday lives, especially beauty products!

Switching my entire beauty routine over to non toxic alternatives is still a work in progress, but one of the first + easiest things to switch if you’re looking to limit the amount of toxic chemicals in your life is nail polish.

Essie nail polish has been a favorite brand of mine for a long time. I love their vibrant shades and on trend colors, so I was so excited when I found out years ago that they are committed to being a 3 free nail polish brand.

3 Free Nail Polish

A nail polish formula that is free of formaldehyde, toluene, or dibutyl phthalate.

These are three of the top endocrine disrupting chemicals that can be found in a variety of beauty products. It’s definitely not an exhaustive list by any means, as there are nail polish brands that are 5 free, 7 free, and 9 free of multiple other chemicals as well.

Personally, I don’t wear nail polish every day, but when I do I opt for at least a 3 free nail polish brand, like Essie. I love that I can still enjoy fun, vibrant shades of nail polish while limiting my exposure to toxic chemicals.
