3 Hairstyles to Hide Dark Roots (no hat required!)

CONFESSION: I haven’t had my hair colored in almost ONE YEAR. That’s 12 months of growing out my hair without any touch ups, highlights, lowlights… nothing.

This definitely wasn’t my original plan last spring when I learned about a fancy little thing I had called “chemical sensitivity”… basically when I’m exposed to harsh chemicals — like traditional household cleaners or hair color — my body reacts with a not-so-pleasant onset of crazy symptoms. Think: lightheaded-ness, nausea, bloating, itchy arms and legs. inability to regulate my body temperature, etc.

So while I’ve been working through an immune system treatment over the past 12 months to heal my body + eliminate its reaction to these chemical exposures, I’ve just decided to avoid getting my hair colored all together! Sometimes I seriously can’t believe I even made it this far… I used to get my hair colored every 10-12 weeks for years!

So as you can imagine, throughout the past 12 months I’ve definitely had my fair share of trying different hairstyles to “hide” or rather disguise my fake roots to look natural + effortless and almost like I intended them to be that way… I’m to a point now in the growth process that the more blonde part of my hair is long enough to balance out the darker roots & it almost looks like an intentional ombré. But it took a while to get there & so I wanted to share all my tips + tricks I learned along the way this past year & share 3 hairstyles that hide dark roots on the blog today!
